Laser scanning captures millions of points per second, making it dramatically faster for documenting complex existing geometry — an ornate heritage facade, an irregular existing structure, or a cluttered MEP plant room. Total station surveying, by contrast, captures discrete points one at a time but with full operator control over exactly what's measured.
